I am a member of the church that Howard Bess pastored at until his retirement this June. The book banning incident is part of church history, well known and remembered by church members. Our welcoming and affirming church is known for the diversity of our membership and our involvement in the community. I cannot speak for other members of our church, but I am deeply concerned for our gay/lesbian/transgender members. I feel this book banning incident is a true reflection of Sarah Palin's character and fundamentalist agenda. If Palin is elected, will we find ourselves in the dark ages of intelligent thought? Will social justice take a giant leap backward? Where is the howl of protest from our gay/lesbian/transgender communities? Why don't I see demonstrations similar to the one that happened in Anchorage on Saturday?
